Migraines suck!

I'm calling in sick to the blogosphere this evening. I hate migraines. Please excuse me as I go crawl into bed.

I hope you're feeling better. Have you ever tried Excedrin Migraine? It's been a godsend for me...I pop two, take a nap, and wake up oh-so much better.

Much better now. Some Excedrin, as ice pack and bed usually do the trick.

I get migraines too (once a month). Unless they're really bad, I stave them off with a teaspoon of dried ginger stirred into some juice. But when they're really bad there's an over-the-counter medication called Solpadeine which we can get in Europe that contains codeine as well as paracetamol (um, I think you call paracetamol something else - tylenol, perhaps).

Anyway, I'm glad to know yours went! Sometimes mine last about four days.

Glad to hear that you are feeling better. Migraines are the worst. I suffered from them horribly at one time.

Sue- you mentioned that you use a pill with codeine that has helped you. Just curious how you felt after taking one. I had a neurologist tell me quite a few years ago that taking any sort of narcotic was one of the worst things for a migraine since they caused rebound headaches. I ended up taking a very low dose of an anti-depressant for a few months and that totally cleard them up! I haven't had a migraine in ages.

I'm also prone to monthly migraines. I use to get them much more often, but I generally manage them and my life better.
hen I do get them they are no where near as severe as they once were.

I normally turn to Imetrex for releif, which I don't even know how to describe for those of you overseas; let's just say it does wonders. But it is dangerous for developing fetuses and since we are no longer preventing that possibility, I'd rather not take the risk.

In reply to the question about codeine - it's widely used for migraine in Europe. I guess any drug if used too much can lead to rebound headaches when withdrawn, but then so can caffeine or even aspirin. There's a branded drug called Migraleve which also contains codeine and is specially used by migraine sufferers, and the more general one I use called Solpadeine which is almost as good (and works more quickly). Usually I only take one dose and the migraine is gone. Of course codeine can be addictive if taken regularly so I only use this when the migraine is really bad, and when I have something I MUST do that day.
