Movies, Movies Theatres, and Rootbeer Floats

I don’t think I’ve ever gone this long without posting before. How’d that happen? Well, I guess it did and now I’ll have to make up for lost time.

Lyn and I went to see the “Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith” tonight. It rated two thumbs up. They came full circle with the story and told it well. Special effects were good, but not domineering. Acting was much better. It was on level with the original “Star Wars” and with “The Empire Strikes Back.”

My really exciting news is, I got to see the preview for “The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.” It looks like they did an excellent job. It’s not out until December, but it’s on my will see list.

Click link continue reading:

To get to the actual teaser trailer follow the link, after the doorknob turns itself into place, click on the wardrobe. Moving your mouse over Aslan's image will bring down a drop down menu. Click The Movie, on the bottom of the page is a link the The Production Room, follow that. Once there click on the television. This will pop up a window and start both the teaser and the behind the scences videos. Check it out!.

Also on the list of movies I can wait to see is "War of the World." I really hope that Hollywood didn’t mess it up. Who am I kidding? I’ll be pleasantly surprised if they didn’t, but the previews look really good and I think I can talk Lyn into go to see it with me.

A couple weeks ago, I went see "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy," but didn’t manage mention it in any of my posts. I really liked it, but I've never read the book. I gather it’s not completely true to the book, which bothers some of the people I’ve spoken with, but, if you can get past that, as a movie it’s really quite good.

I got to see both of these movies at the Alamo Drafthouse, which is a really cool place. I’ve never seen a theatre like it elsewhere, although I have no doubt they exist. It’s kind of a dinner theatre. You sit in regular movie chair seats. There’s a small table in front of you with enough room for a waitperson to slip by without disturbing you. They provide food and beverage serve, including beer and wine, throughout the movie at pretty reasonable prices. It’s a much, much nicer your regular movie going at the local movie megaplex. Nobody’s kicking your seat. It’s a smaller a cozier theatre, therefore fewer people, and less noise. Plus it’s not as heavily frequented by teens and children, so, there again, less noise. It’s locally owned, so I feel better spending my money there. Plus you get fewer commercials and they’re all local and geared to the audience. We did spend a little bit more money then we would have at AMC or Regal, but only because we generally don’t get snacks. But since there’s a waitstaff, I consider it only courteous to order something, not that that was a chore. Lyn had some rich chocolate cake and I had a heavenly rootbeer float.

Looks good - I'm going to have to re-read the books, it's been soooo long since I have read them...

We saw the Lion the witch and the wardrobe preview too--it looks really good! I was a HUGE fan of the narnia chronicles as a kid and really want to see that one!

That preview looks so cool! Can't wait to see it on the big screen!

And I like that theater you frequent, Lora. We have a similar styled one here in Seattle called The Big Picture. It also serves as a meeting place for businesses! I've never been to it, though, since the movies I get to go to are usually kid movies...with my kid! Boy, would she love to have a rootbeer float at her next movie!
