“The trouble with these international affairs is they attract foreigners.”

For the past week and a half they have been reroofing my apartment complex. Being that I work evenings and then stay up until much later than I should, this really hasn’t made me a happy camper. They’ve been very courteous and haven’t started working until 8, but I need more than 5-6 hours of sleep a night. Last night, after returning from dinner with my in-laws, I actually managed to get in bed before midnight (ok, so it was 11:59, but this is much earlier than usual). Plus the roofing crew has moved onto a different part of the complex, so I didn’t wake up to hammering this morning. I feel like myself again.

In other exciting news, I got had the pleasure of speaking with J Bo of Ce Soir ou Jamais yesterday afternoon. We had a lot to talk about and found out that we have many similar concerns. I was enjoying our conversation so much that, I’m afraid I kept her on the phone much longer than I should have. J bo is the first person I’ve met on line that I’ve ever spoken to, although Anvilcloud and I did exchange postcards last month. It’s always so nice to talk to somebody else that regularly reads or keeps a blog. It’s obviously an important part of my life that I don’t often get to discuss.

Those Magnificent Men in their Flying Machines.
We had a pleasant and relaxing evening with our in-laws. My father-in-law loves to grill, and he made up some Thai marinated chicken breasts that were quite yummy. My mother-in-law had been saving a wonderful chocolate sauce for us to try with desert. So we were treated to full fat premium vanilla ice cream topping with Susan Elaine's Caffe Mocha Fudge Sauce. I though I had died and gone to heaven.

We had my Father-in-law choose the movie for the evening as he had been subjected to my and Lyn’s suggestions for the past several get togethers. He’s very partial to comedies that were made before I was born and last night’s selection was no different. However, it was a good choice, because we all enjoyed it.

Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines, or How I Flew from London to Paris in 25 hours 11 minutes, was made in 1965. The only name I recognized from the credits was Benny Hill, and that alone will tell you quite a bit about it. It is full of every international stereotype you can possibly imagine to the point of ridiculous extreme. I have to say they we very kind in the American stereotypes they chose to represent. The setting was the “first” international flying completion, circa 1910, and was full of lots of vintage aircraft, which my husband loved. In his analysis, they did a very good job with the replicas. He couldn’t help but remark that were it not for WWI flying technology would have likely stayed at the level for quite some time. I highly recommend it for a good clean laugh, but it’s not at all PC. However, it’s full of enough one-liners to get you lots of strange looks, and that's always fun.

Hey! I'm still waiting for that card. Did you send it by way of Fiji?

Thank you so much, Lora! And you did not keep me on the phone too long! My neighbor and I are like that with communication- sometimes we stand outside of each other's homes using the international hand symbols for 'Call Me'. And I am so glad that *you* called me and even gladder to have you as my friend! See you within a week!

Hi, and thanks for the kind comment you left on my site. Thanks to Michele, I'm meeting bunches of other great bloggers.

I share your pain when it comes to work crews. Our back neighbors are prepping their house to sell it, and I swear they were out there with power tools at seven AM - criminal.

Looking forward to reading more of you.

Hi, I'm here through Michele's comment game. I know what you mean about having lots to talk about when you meet an online friend in person. I was nervous about doing this, partly because I have to be careful about my anonymity because of the nature of my blog and my work, but I had my first meeting with a fellow blogger last month, and we talked for ages! Now I have two more planned for later in the year, and I'm much less nervous about those. Judging by your post and J Bo's comment, you're at the beginning of a beautiful (offline) friendship!

Clean? Benny Hill? That must be a first! LOL! Or maybe it's because it was made back in the '50s.

Actually I think I remember seeing this film - I certainly know a song with the words of the title, which I guess was from it. But I'd quite forgotten about it. In the same era as Chitty-Chitty Bang Bang, I think.

Pearl- you are a naughty girl =)

Sue- I generally can't stand Benny Hill, but this was pretty clean. I think it is in thae same era as Chitty-Chitty Bang Bang.
