Homeownership

We got the house. We’ve had meetings and have been taking care of paperwork all week. What fun, not. I truly cannot imagine buying or selling a house without the use of a real estate agent. People who do things like that obviously are more talented in the organizational department then am I. There are so many little details to take care of and I realize our journey of the paperwork nightmare has just begun.

We had the housing inspection taken care of yesterday and did a little more negotiations on the deal, but I believe everything is final now. For a 20 year old home it’s in amazingly good shape. There are many little things that need to take care of. As a former carpenter and remodeler, these are easy and inexpensive fixes for my hubby; for the average homeowner these would be much more of a headache. I have to say when I met him I truly underappreciated the talents my husband has in building and fixing department. As we prepare for home ownership I see myself bowing to these talents on a daily basis.

Of course, my mind is preoccupied with what I want to do with the yard and the décor. We have almost a month between the closing and when we need to vacate our apartment, so in theory I should be able to get quite a bit done. I’ve been living in apartments with neural color walls for so long that right now I just want to put color everywhere. That may be a little more than hubby, who hates to paint can handle though. I’m sure things will settle down soon and formulate themselves into a plan.

Honey, I feel you.

And about the decorating, I feel you too. It's all I want to think about, but I know that I have spent every last dime just getting into the thing and can't afford even paint right now. Patience, I guess, we'll have to learn. It will come, and it will be beautiful.

BTW, the house I bought is 20 years old too!

More synchronicity...

Congratulations!

Ya, I am glad I have a handy husband, too! And if I were there, I would love to help you with the painting. I had such a great group of friends come to my aid when I needed the entire interior of my home painted so I really need to share my karma...sending the vibes to Austin....

Yay for you!!

congrats Lora and Mr Blackcurrant Jam

a home of one's own is a treasure, and so is having a hubby who can do all the handywork to make it just how you want it

the papertrail sessions do seem to go on forever, also the signing of cheques with large numbers on them

wishing you a stress free transition

Congratulations, Lora. You both should be incredibly happy. It'll be so much nicer raising your baby in your own house. Apartments suck for families!

And you're so right about your husband. It'll be a lot nicer having his carpentry talents around the house.
