Good thoughts

I’m in one of those tired and grumpy hormone induced moods. It’s Monday and it’s hot so I know it’s going to be slow at work tonight. Feeling blah to begin with just makes a slow evening worse. Once I start going down the path of negative thought patterns, I have escapism fantasies and my attitude doesn’t improve. I think a little conscious reframing is in order.

First three things that will make this a good night:
  1. I think my favorite manager will be working tonight. I hate to play favorites, but sometimes it just happens and I always have a much better night when he’s working.
  2. Our two most temperamental cooks are still on vacation! That's worth having a party over.
  3. I am very likely to get some regulars in that I haven’t seen in a while tonight. Even if I don’t people who eat out on Mondays are generally quite pleasant.
Can you tell a pleasant people environment is important to me at work? Corny as this may be, this reframing is working. Now three things that I’m grateful for about today:
  1. I preorder the two books I’ve been anticipating the July release of J. K. Rowling's Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and John Irving’s Until I Find You.
  2. I just devoured and thoroughly enjoyed a rather generous chocolate bar (Lindt, Intense Orange Dark Chocolate with pieces of orange and almond slivers).
  3. I managed to get the best cashier at the grocery store today and my favorite bagger.
It's working! I can think of more! I'm off to be productive before I leave for work.

wow, i was in quite the sour mood, too... but I think I may practice a little of this 'reframing' myself. now if I could just get my hands on some lindt chocolate...!

I'll have you know then when I walked into work to some regulars waiting for me to get there, my favorite manager, and the absence of my two lease favorite cooks my night was just made. Plus my pleasure in these things put a smile on other people's faces.

How come it only takes a second of negative thinking to spoil a perfectly good mood? Powerful stuff...that thinking.

Hey Lora...to answer your fabric question, I usually just go to Hancock fabrics because they seem to have a bigger selection. But for way cool, (and sometimes way expensive) fabrics, Silk Road on N. Lamar (across from Central Market) is really fun. There's also Fanny's Fabrics on South Lamar, in the shopping center with the new Alamo Drafthouse. I've never been in there, though, just window-shopped. Have a great time with your friend!

Also, I like your "reframing" idea. I'm going to write that one down.

I just want to say Dark Chocolate is my favourite. In the absence of chocoalte I had pineapple rings for breakfast. Worked quite well.
