"Working 9 to 5...

...what a way to make a living." This working stuff can really put a cramp in a girl’s style. I calculated it and between work hours and a longer commute my time commitment to work has increased by about 18 hours. Plus, I need to be much more prepared for work than I have in the past, which demands better discipline on my part. Frankly, as a waitress for so long I’m not use to having to be overly responsible. It’s going to take me a little while to adjust to this, but I think in the end it will be a very good thing.

Plus, my schedule is completely the opposite of what I’m use to. I actually like this getting up early thing, going to work and having the evenings to relax. Of course, this means I now have to compete with my dear husband for the bathroom in the morning and for the computer in the evening. It’s nice though. I’m having more of an opportunity to cook and we have actually sat down and eaten dinner together everyday for a week now. I was a little fearful that I wouldn’t get enough alone time, but we seem to be working that out.

Of course, it is not going to last this way. Newbies, such as myself, normally end up working a disproportionate number of evening shifts. So, I will have to enjoy this while I can. I apologize for not going into more detail about my new job. I have no problem telling those of you that have asked, but I do not want it engraved in cyberspace. Let me just say that I am working in a care position with adolescents who have special needs. And because it’s a care facility there are certain confidentiality issues involved, as well as privacy issues for myself. It’s going to prove to be a good challenge, but despite all the little fears and alarms that go off in my head I intend to give it a full 6 months before I make any judgments about how long I want to do this for. It will be a good way of deciding if I want to go into the mental health direction or into the teaching direction.

So for now, my blogging time is definitely a little more limited and unpredictable. No doubt, I’ll soon get into a new pattern that y'all will beable to depend upon. Also with everything that’s been happening, I’m a little behind on reading my favorite blogs, but I hope to catch with everybody quickly. Thanks to everybody for your good cheers and inquires.

Wow, 18 extra hours... I can see that could be stressful. But nice to spend more time with your husband, and have evenings free, I would think. I hope the work begins to feel worthwhile - even from the little you've said, it sounds ideal for an INFJ. All the best as you adjust to the new schedule!

oh man can I relate to the shock of long commutes and new job responsibilities

Congrats on your new role - sounds like it has enough challenges to keep you on your toes for awhile to come yet

now that we have less time for blogging, we'll just have to get more efficient at it - hey?

Ah, the joys of day jobs ...

Seriously, I am so excited for you. I completely understand about having the blogging schedule disrupted!! :) Hope you continue to enjoy the new routine (faults and all) and find direction for where you want to go with your career.

Hi Lora,
Your job souns very like work I have done in the past. I totally understand the confidentiality issue.
It's demanding yet rewarding work I found - has its ups and downs as one would expect.
I won't ramble on - just found it interesting that you are doing it and we have something in common - or I used to (I still have it at heart).

This is the same kind of work that I have done for years. Also, my family is full of waitresses. I tried it once but it was way tooo hard for me...brain meltdown stuff. Good luck on it...it sounds like it pretty well.
